This Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana calculator (सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना कैलकुलेटर) page helps you estimate how much a Sukanya Samriddhi account could be worth at maturity. Enter your yearly or monthly deposit and the interest rate in the calculator above. Below, we explain the formula, the assumptions we use, and worked examples you can check by hand.
All examples use 8.2 percent a year, the rate for October to December 2026 as reported by the Free Press Journal and StudyCafe on 30 September 2026. The government reviews small savings rates every quarter, so the real rate over 21 years may be higher or lower. Treat every number here as an estimate. How the SSY calculator estimates maturity
The scheme rules that drive the calculation come from the PIB backgrounder of January 2025:
- You can deposit for 15 years from the date of opening.
- The account matures at 21 years from opening. In years 16 to 21 there are no deposits, but the balance keeps earning interest.
- Deposits must be at least Rs 250 and at most Rs 1,50,000 per financial year.
- Interest is worked out monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th day and the end of the month, and credited at the end of each financial year. The PNB SSA page says interest is compounded annually.
Our calculator follows a simple yearly model:
- At the start of each year (years 1 to 15), add that year's deposit to the balance.
- At the end of the year, add interest: balance multiplied by the rate (8.2 percent means multiply by 1.082).
- For years 16 to 21, skip the deposit and only add interest.
- The balance after year 21 is the estimated maturity amount.
As a formula: Balance at end of year = (Balance at start + Deposit) x (1 + r), with Deposit = 0 after year 15 and r = 8.2 / 100.
Assumptions and limits of this estimate
- The rate stays at 8.2 percent for all 21 years. In reality the Finance Ministry can change it every quarter. As reported, rates have been unchanged for 10 quarters, but that is not a promise.
- Deposits are made at the start of each financial year, before the 5th of the month. If you deposit monthly, money paid later in the year earns interest for fewer months, so your real maturity will be a little lower than our figures.
- No missed years. A missed minimum deposit puts the account in default. According to the PNB page, revival needs a Rs 50 penalty per year of default plus the missed minimum deposits.
- No withdrawals. A partial withdrawal for education (up to 50 percent of the previous year's balance, allowed after 18 or Class 10) reduces the final amount.
- Rounding. Figures are rounded to the nearest rupee. Your post office or bank passbook is the final word.
You can change the rate in the calculator above to see what happens if rates go up or down.

Year-wise example: Rs 1,000 a month
Many people want a sukanya samriddhi yojana calculator year wise view. Here is the estimated balance for Rs 12,000 a year (Rs 1,000 a month), paid at the start of each year at 8.2 percent:
| End of year | Total deposited so far | Estimated balance |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | Rs 12,000 | Rs 12,984 |

Your answer should match our tables. Post office, SBI or other bank SSY calculators may show slightly different numbers if they assume monthly deposits or a different deposit date.
Why bank and post office figures may differ
The account earns the same government-notified rate whether you open it at a post office or an authorised bank, since both follow the same scheme rules (PIB). Differences between online calculators come from assumptions: deposit timing, monthly versus yearly deposits, and whether they assume today's rate for all years. A sukanya samriddhi yojana post office calculator and an SBI one should give similar results if the inputs match. If you see an LIC SSY calculator, note that the official sources we rely on list only post offices and authorised commercial bank branches as places to open the account.

Frequently asked questions
How much will I get if I deposit Rs 1,000 a month in Sukanya Samriddhi?
Rs 1,000 a month is Rs 12,000 a year, or Rs 1,80,000 over 15 years. If the rate stayed at 8.2 percent for all 21 years and deposits were made at the start of each year, the estimated maturity is about Rs 5,74,570. Monthly deposits made later in the year would give slightly less. Rates change quarterly, so this is only an estimate.
What is the maturity amount for Rs 5,000 per month in SSY?
Rs 5,000 a month is Rs 60,000 a year, or Rs 9,00,000 over 15 years. At 8.2 percent with yearly compounding and deposits at the start of each year, the estimate at 21 years is about Rs 28,72,848. The real amount depends on future quarterly rates and when in the year you deposit.
How does the SSY calculator work?
It adds your deposit at the start of each year for 15 years, adds interest at the chosen rate at the end of each year, and keeps adding interest without deposits until year 21. This matches the scheme's 15-year deposit period and 21-year maturity. The official interest rule is monthly on the lowest balance after the 5th, credited yearly.
Which interest rate should I use in the Sukanya calculator?
Use the latest rate announced by the Finance Ministry. For October to December 2026 it is 8.2 percent, as reported on 30 September 2026. You can also try a lower rate, such as 7.5 or 7 percent, to see a cautious estimate, because the rate may change in future quarters.
Is the Sukanya Samriddhi maturity amount tax-free?
According to the Punjab National Bank SSA page, the deposit, interest and maturity amount are tax-free, and deposits up to Rs 1.5 lakh a year qualify under Section 80C. Your own tax benefit depends on the tax regime you choose, so check with a tax adviser before you plan.
Is the post office SSY calculator different from the SBI SSY calculator?
The scheme rules and rate are the same at post offices and authorised banks. Different calculators can still show different numbers because of assumptions such as monthly versus yearly deposits or the date of deposit. Use the same inputs in each to compare fairly.
