Lakhpati Didi Yojana: What It Is and Who Qualifies
Lakhpati Didi (लखपति दीदी) is not a scheme that pays women Rs 1 lakh. It helps Self Help Group members build household income of Rs 1 lakh or more a year. Here is how it works and how to take part.
- What it is
- SHG livelihood goal under DAY-NRLM, Ministry of Rural Development
- Lakhpati Didi means
- SHG member household earning Rs 1,00,000 or more a year
- Cash payout?
- No fixed amount paid to women (PIB, 29 August 2024)
- Progress
- Over 3 crore Lakhpati Didis (PIB, 17 July 2026)
- New target
- 6 crore Lakhpati Didis
- How to join
- Through a village SHG under the State Rural Livelihood Mission
The Lakhpati Didi Yojana (लखपति दीदी योजना; in Marathi, लखपती दीदी) is an initiative under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana, National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) of the Union Ministry of Rural Development. It works through women's Self Help Groups (SHGs) in villages across India.
This independent guide is not a government site. It answers "Lakhpati Didi Yojana kya hai", explains who counts as a Lakhpati Didi, what support is available, and why "online apply" pages are misleading. Facts are as of 14 October 2026.
Lakhpati Didi Yojana kya hai?
According to a PIB backgrounder of 29 August 2024, a Lakhpati Didi is an SHG member whose household earns Rs 1,00,000 or more a year. The income is measured over at least four agricultural seasons and/or business cycles, with average monthly income above Rs 10,000.
So the name describes a goal for the woman's household income, not a payment from the government. The aim is to help rural women raise their earnings through farming, livestock, small businesses and other livelihoods, with training and credit through their SHG.
Is it a Rs 1 lakh cash scheme? No
This is the most common confusion. PIB is clear that there is no fixed amount paid to women under Lakhpati Didi. Unlike cash transfer schemes such as Ladki Bahin Yojana in Maharashtra or Ladli Behna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh, nothing is credited monthly to your account just for being enrolled.
If someone promises you Rs 1 lakh under Lakhpati Didi in return for a fee or your bank details, it is not how the scheme works. Do not pay, and do not share your Aadhaar, OTP or bank details. This site never asks for them either.
What support SHG women can get
According to PIB (29 August 2024), support comes through the SHG system. All amounts below are from that backgrounder:
| Support | What it is |
|---|---|
| Training and livelihood plan | SHG members get training and a household livelihood plan, with help from Community Resource Persons (CRPs) |
| Revolving fund | Rs 20,000 to 30,000 per SHG |
| Community Investment Fund | Up to Rs 2.50 lakh per SHG |
| SHG bank loans | Collateral-free loans up to Rs 20 lakh |
| Interest subvention | Support on interest for SHG loans |
| Enterprise credit | Credit guarantees for women's enterprises |
Note that the funds and loans go to and through the SHG, not as a personal grant. Loans have to be repaid.
How to become a Lakhpati Didi: steps
There is no individual cash-benefit application form. Based on the PIB description, this is how women take part:
- Join or form a Self Help Group in your village under your State Rural Livelihood Mission (often called Aajeevika). Ask your gram panchayat or the block office for the local mission staff.
- Take part in SHG meetings, savings and training regularly.
- SHG members are identified as potential Lakhpati Didis through a consultative process, and their progress is tracked in the Digital Aajeevika Register.
- Make a livelihood plan with your CRP: for example, farming, livestock or a small enterprise.
- Use SHG funds and bank linkage for credit, and grow income until your household crosses Rs 1 lakh a year.
The official site has a page called How do I become a Lakhpati Didi, linked from PIB. We could not open it during research, so if its steps look different, follow the official page.
Lakhpati Didi Yojana online apply: why to be careful
Many websites show a "Lakhpati Didi Yojana online apply" form. Since the scheme works through SHG membership and identification, and pays no fixed cash benefit, such pages are misleading. Do not fill forms on blogs, pay "registration fees" or send documents on WhatsApp. Join through your local SHG and State Rural Livelihood Mission staff instead.
